Pearson sacked from Leicester! I'd like that over Cooper or McDermott but I don't think he'd go for the new set up.

I always wanted a nice big detached house but couldn't really afford one,
It had to be MASSIVE, with a rich history, good foundations and great support, full of tradition and with lots of potential, then . I found one just out of my budget but with a bit of a push I managed to buy one, me and the kids where overjoyed at last we owned a dream.

I bought it from a nice old gentleman, he'd kept the front garden nice and tidy but the back was a mess and inside needed much TLC, some improvement and some investment.

I quickly set about putting in new windows and a new lawn was laid in the main garden. I'd kept on the old housekeeper and they did a good job in the main on a tight budget bringing in some bits of furniture on HP and picking up better bits with quality that were damaged or shop soiled and things improved a little.

However it wasn't long before the housekeeper started looking in bigger and better shops and looking to do a lot of upgrades, some old bits and bobs were got rid off and room was made for new stuff, plans to spend bit money we're being made, but I had this nagging doubt. most of my friends said keep her longer, give her a chance, give her the money . I have some money but I'm not a spender, I don't like to waste it, I'm looking for value, could my current partner pull it off? I wasn't sure, I don't have much experience in house renovation even though I watched it on TV many times.

I decided to ask the advice of an uncle who had been recommended to me. he knew the business all be it a few years ago. surely he would point me in the right direction as he'd got a couple of old friends with him - a kind of mini committee if you like.

I was already looking at going down a new route, one that worked in Europe (so it must be good) and ploughed ahead.

I took his advice and with his support we decided to go continental . the housekeeper didn't like all this foreign muck and left, I considered a replacement from the UK but on my Uncles advice I looked abroad, the lure of a fancy foreigner excited me and my uncle and his committee came through again finding me a new face to generally manage the house.

With lots of overseas experience and some success, although most of it was in the past and I was excited at the prospect of a foreign affair, my uncle even offered to help bring in the new fixtures and fittings, all my new love had to do was to put it all in the right place and make it all work.

It looked a big task so my uncle suggested a house keeper, somebody more local maybe with a more hands on approach. We searched and searched but couldn't find the right one. not to do the things we were asking well not for the kind of money we was offering dreams of a three some were slipping away.

My friends were now worrying about my health and my long term well being, they just didn't understand the decisions I had made and the road I had taken, most still saying I should have kept to the old ways even the old people.

Sod 'em, I'd show 'em.

Well if I can spend a little and maybe get lucky with some cheap foreign loans and purchases all can still come good and if not I'll still have my dream of owning a detached house, maybe in few years of careful investment and a lot of luck I'll get my money back and in the future, who knows maybe even make a buck or too. But if not I will still have fulfilled my dream, me and the kids dream. Owning a detached house.

I just hope I don't make a complete mess of things with my radical new ideas. I don't want to go back to the dark days of a semi in S2 or even worse a 2 up 2 down in Barnsley or Rotherham.

Nice story Teat.
Your approach is very similar to a bloke who bought a detached in S6 but I believe he's going to splash a bit more money on the house once he works out exactly what needs to be done with the foundations, and he gets some builders who he knows he can trust.
Just another point, your uncle, how old is he and how close are you to him?
Looks like a big mistake listening to him Teat, he seems totally out of touch with todays building trade, and was he really any good back then anyway?
I should buy him a long holiday in return for what he's done so far and get somebody else in asap.

hOWLer thanks for your advice, I've spoken to my uncle and he said look at the job he recently did in Wales, that's turned out well. He was a tad surprised that Slade wasn't at number one at Christmas tho. Then he mentioned something about having a nice tan!

Post of the year; loved it.
Kind of saddens me though at the same time, as it's all true.
