Former Owls target, Michael Kramer, is now available for transfer again after the deal with a club in the UAE, fell through when the money did not arrive for the transfer fee.

His club, Den Haag, want the situation resolved quickly. Celtic were also interested in Kramer.

According to reports, Wednesday have been blocked from signing former Leeds captain, Rodolph Austin, by tough new F.A. rules that have led to him being refused a work permit.

Can somebody explain these to me as he played in the Championship last year, is a current international and is probably better than a large number of overseas players that are being brought over?

Austin is from Jamaica.
There are totally different rules for European and non-European workers/players.
I admit it does seem a little unfair though, especially when his son was born and brought up in this country, and in less than two years he would have qualified for British citizenship?

Well I tried to read through the FA rules and regulations to get a good answer for your question but found it to be a little difficult for my non-lawyer brain to comprehend but from the article the way I took it was because he was in the UK but left before he was able to get citizenship for some reason he was denied to come back, But I'm sure if we want him there is a process to get his work permit it just hasn't been done yet. That would be my guess though.

Thanks to those folks who tried to find an answer to my question, American Owl and Howler.

I have been enlightened by an article in The Guardian that explains the situation. Evidently only players born in a country whose national team is in the top 50 will be eligible for work permits. Jamaica is in the top 75 but not the top 50.

If the deal is worth over £10 million, the rule does not apply.

Wow that's a ridiculous rule.

Seeing as though FA having rediculous rules why don't we make a rediculous offer a massive contact of about 10 years or whatever makes he payment 10mil in wages haha but he will retire and all sorted. (This is a joke obviously)
