A question to the MM doubters.

Name a time/season when MM has failed whilst been swfc chairman?

Believable19 Unbelievable21

Keeping Dave Jones 12 months too long. that's a year of damage MM did to Wednesday. Want more?

Agree21 Disagree8

Not an MM doubter at all, but I do have some concerns.
In the 2 1/2 seasons so far - he never has yet let us down.
BUT he has to EITHER find an investor, OR invest himself VERY SOON, or he will start to fail the club and the supporters.
I have no complaint with MM and would be more than happy for him to stay.
But we do NEED to invest, slowly if necessary, in better quality players on the books to make our stay in the Champs easier to maintain than what it has been so far.
I am not as critical as some about the use of loan players, I think it will be a necessary and growing part of the game below Prem level.
BUT we have to have our own 1st team players on contract, and then use the loan system to cover for injuries etc.
To be relying on loans as we are at mo to fill KEY parts of team e. g. : both CBs, CFs, CMFs, is not an acceptable way to plan for the future? In fact you can't plan for the future if your players can be called back to their parent clubs at short notice.

Agree22 Disagree2

He showed faith in DJ to turn it round and stay up which we did. It was the first season back and mm said steady progression from day 1. This season when things looked like they wasn't going to turn round he acted. He also was patient enough with his decision on sg and gave him the respect he deserved because if he'd have rushed his decision to appoint him straight away he would've only give him till end of season and he would've been slated for going for the cheap option. Instead he took his time making sure it was right, gave him a good contract and almost made it a fans choice. Fantastic chairmanship. Go on give me more!

Agree8 Disagree6

He sacked Megson to replace him with Dave Jones! Could he have done anything worse?

Agree16 Disagree9

I appreciate what megson did for the club but a lot of fans were starting to get frustrated with megsons tactics and our results were slipping away although we beat united but mm had already made his mind up. Like it or not we won promotion with DJ as manager yes that's won promotion which takes me back to my first post. Name a time when he's failed? BTW I am getting a lot of agrees with my comments

Agree10 Disagree12

If we just record things accurately, winning promotion was not down to MM. Just the opposite really, Megson put a side together on a shoestring which turned things around, got results, and went in to playoff positions - all thanks to Megsons tactics
Its a matter of record now that MM and Megson -fell out- because Megson wanted more support from MM to get his/our team promoted but MM denied him that.
DJ came in and with a little extra support with some more loan signings, we got automatic promotion. But that was more to do with the fact that Utd failed to get a win in their last 5games, crashed and burned, than anything MM or DJ did, otherwise we would have been in playoffs which was almost guaranteed.
Just makes me laugh how our ungrateful fans keep referring to "Megsons tactics" in derogatory terms?
He was only allowed to sign cast-offs from Lge2 at best, and then takes criticism for not playing like Barca! even though he took us in to playoffs and made Hillsboro a feared place for visitors for first time in decades.
Our fans should do their research, Megson was criticised by some West Brom fans for playing "pretty" football when he got them promoted in to Prem for the 2nd time.
His tactics also saved Bolton from what everyone thought was certain relegation when he took over, and then took them in to Europe.
Megson would have been successful at S6 if he had been backed because he has proved he has the ability and he is as much, if not more of an Owl, as any of our disrespectful supporters.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - Megson was never accused of playing pretty football, that was Tony Mowbray. Megson has been accused of many things, but never of playing good football, or of being a good manager, by anyone outside of Sheffield. Stockport can trace back their financial difficulties to his management, when he followed on Jones there. First thing he did was call in a bunch of players, many he had never even seen play, including my cousin, and give them a long term contract on a much higher wage than they were previously on. Most of those players he never even gave a game to, including my cousin, and never watched them play to know if they should have had a chance or not anyway. Megson has always played percentage football, not pretty football, but it can be effective, when done correctly.}

Haha well done Ed. Firstly I said I appreciated what megson did and that it was some fans getting frustrated with his tactics and I pointed out that results were starting to go against us which they were (other than united match). You've just said that it was anything but mm that got us promoted in fact you said it was the opposite. So if it was nothing to do with mm getting promoted how the hell can you slag him off every week for been at the bottom? Haha plonker!

Agree2 Disagree9

To Ed001: I'm amazed you saw fit to add such a lengthy appraisal of my post when we read some of the insulting rubbish that gets through unchallenged!
I don't suppose that's got anything to do with the way your cousin was treated because that would smack of bias on the pert of the Editorial staff?
I stand by my post and there are far more "inaccurate" - if that's how YOU see it - get on this site every day of the week without a hint of editorial interference?
I hope you have the same integrity and wish to see "just posts" and honesty to post this response.

Agree1 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - I don't have anything to do with my cousin, just know what happened. He was in the youth team, Jones called him up to the first team to cover when Stockie had the cup runs. After Jones left, Megson came in and called him into the office, before they had even had a training session or anything. Gave him an extended contract on higher wages, then never spoke to him again or watched him train with the kids or play.
As for the rest, you are just ignorant, you have no idea who is dealing with most of the posts, so why are you whining about me replying to one I happened to deal with? Could it be because I pointed out that you were wrong about Megson's rep? He was hated in Bolton, Stockport and West Bromwich as a negative longball merchant. Considering the Bolton fans had previously been happy with Sam Allardyce's hoof ball style, it says a lot about Megson.
As for integrity and honesty, grow up! I will edit and reply to what I want, and you can just grow a pair and try admitting you were wrong or whine like a five year old, but I don't care either way. You are just making yourself look a complete tool with this post. It is embarrassing to try and make such an issue out of a reply, purely because you can't take being wrong. Sad.}

IF there is a heart beating in the FA they will rescind Lavery's booking for showing some compassion towards him mum and her breast cancer.

We all wish her well

Agree13 Disagree0

To Ed001: Thanks for having the integrity to publish my response.
I too have family interests who were involved at West Brom at the time so I have to endorse my original post as factual in that respect at least.
Megson was canvassed strongly at West Brom, and in the Local Press, to change his style to avoid relegation "again".
His record at Bolton can stand scrutiny.
Football is about opinions, yours and mine are different but both based on true experiences we would both say.
The difference between us is I never personally insulted you "publicly"! Which surely is an abuse of your position.
I would be grateful if you can maintain the same level of integrity and publish this post too. Thank you.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - to change it yes, because they preferred the pretty football of Mowbray. Last post on it, because your bull about honesty and integrity is annoying. It is ridiculous to consider you repeating yourself over and over should get posted just because you put that crap on the bottom. It will get deleted because there is nothing else to add, not because of any lack of integrity, just lack of interest.}

Ed 001: Personal message? -
Like I said its about opinions.
My cousin played under Megson at West Brom in two promotion winning sides and still rates him as the best man manager he played under, and he played for a number of well known managers.
I said nothing wrong, or insulting to anyone.
I can only assume I caught you on a bad Monday morning? - we all have them!
I welcome your decision to delete the thread - as soon as is practical for my part.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - you are missing the point, I was never referring to his man management, but his club management. Also his lack of any attempt to show interest in the youth team, which was Stockport's main asset is a major failing when funds are tight. As for man management, my cousin only met him once, so he had no opinion of his skills in that area, he just found it odd that he was given an extended contract on much higher wages by a man who had never seen him play and then never bothered to watch him play. He had expected to be moved on when called into the office, as he was just a kid and had only made a handful of appearances.
By the way, it is very insulting to be accused of lacking integrity and honesty, so I think you are also missing that point too when you say you said nothing wrong or insulting. I don't always edit the Wednesday site, I was just filling in this morning and saw your post and just pointed out that Megson's failings were his lack of pretty football. It was the same at Bolton. Though it must be said that none of the fans would have cared if his results were not so poor as well.
As for bad Monday morning, no actually, just a rushed one, normally I would reread my replies a number of times to make sure they come across in the manner intended. Today I was distracted and just typed it up and posted it, without reading it back to make sure it was not too harsh. It is very difficult to convey correct meanings online in a quick reply.}

Ed 001: Not for posting, just for your info.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ok mate, read and deleted as you asked. Oh and, before I forget, like I did on the last post, apologies for any harshness, it was not intended.}

Likewise Ed001, and thanks for not posting the previous! lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, we get a lot of those kind of messages. Can be frustrating not being able to share titbits, but you have to abide by the wishes of the person telling you. Last thing we want is them falling out with friends or family over something they have told us.}

Before you two had your lovers tiff and to add two penneth in: I remember a GM interview saying he'd love to play passing football like Barcelona, but he didn't have the squad.

People hated the man, I think Forrest say he's their worst manager ever, but he's remembered fondly with us because of his results not the football. Plus folk always like a manager that falls out with chairman in the interests of the club.

Agree12 Disagree0

Many fans realise that Megson has a manager has severe limitations. I wanted him as manager but realise MM was correct in his actions. If he is such a good manager why is he not in work.

Agree4 Disagree13

Megson still a better manager than dave Jones, nd you can split hairs as much as you like but it was megsons team that got promoted

Agree12 Disagree0

Megson's team but Jones's management. Automatic promotion wouldn't have happened under Megson.
I am a fan of Megson but the truth is without the managerial change we wouldn't have gone up.

Agree3 Disagree8

Megson gave us some pride and something to be excited about for the first time in years. Whether you agree with his style of play is irrelevant. It worked! It's a results business.

Agree7 Disagree0

He wasn't getting results and had lost the respect of the players, but apart from that, he was great.

Agree0 Disagree3

The megson and DJ debate is irrelevant now even though I'm sure they both tried their best for the club whilst they were in charge. Its all about SG now and the fantastic job he's doing. let's not forget my original post was about mm hasn't failed once yet as swfc chairman and its looking to be the case again and long may it continue. Remember steady progress! UTO

Stuart Gray's elevation is clearly a success borne out by the comparison of his stats against 'Big Dave's'.

SG
W10 D4 L6 F28 A15, Win% =50. 0, Pts %=56. 7

DJ
W1 D8 L7 F18 A27, Win% = 6. 3, Pts % = 22. 9

Goals For/Against per game
SG 1. 40 v 0. 75,
DJ 1. 13 v 1. 69.

A slight increase in goals scored per game but a reduction of about a goal a game conceded.

Agree3 Disagree0

Old thread now, guess nobody will read this, but Ched going to prison got us promoted. I don't think GM or DJ would have made that much difference between 3rd or second.

Milan has made a statement that talks with the Qatari group have ended without agreement and that there will be no deal with them.
Really disappointing, but it does at indicate to some of the scoffers that there was at least some substance to the story that broke a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully the search goes on, the Qataris may even have been used to force the hand of one of the other alleged interested parties?

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Where did you read this?

Agree3 Disagree1

Where can we find this interview?

Agree1 Disagree0

It's just Milan putting closure to something that was never real in the first place. He'll leak another FGR soon when things have been stale for a while. I'll give it a month at the most!

Agree1 Disagree6

If you really believe the Quatari one you'll believe anything.

Sheffield Telegraph - why ask just Google?

Wingers anything to say, what more do you need, we will be safe no problem

Agree5 Disagree1

To the 4th poster, why don't you buy the club and spend all your savings on moving us forward?

I think wingers are useful if we are playing Nuhiu or another target man up front. However wingers are less essential if we play Maguire and Lavery up top.

Agree1 Disagree1

I share your thoughts about wingers, exactly.

Agree1 Disagree0

I did google but didn't find anything recent. I thought i'd check on the star web site and there it was. it was a simple question no need for the arsey response. I think MM is doing a great job and will only start to criticise him when I am prepared to put in more money than him. He's made the club easy to purchase and the playing staff is much improved since he took over (just hours before administration by the way). I want him to take his time and select the correct buyer otherwise we could be in major trouble in the future like many other clubs. We are currently in safe hands and since Grey took over in playoff form, I don't see why people are so critical. I certainly don't see why people think MM is starting these rumours.
