Just seen this on a website so i thought id post it. .

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have been linked with Macedonian defender Vance Sikov.

But manager Gary Megson last denied a report that claimed he would be in Cyprus today to watch the centre half play for Cypriot side Ethnikos Achnas against Ermis in Larnaca.

Megson told The Star: I will be watching the FA Cup final on TV here.

The Owls boss never comments on speculation or on whether or not he is interested in a specific player.

But he has said that all his nine targets given to chairman Milan Mandaric are British.

Meanwhile, the Owls are to strengthen the derby flavour of their year ahead by playing pre-season friendlies against Barnsley, Rotherham and Leeds.

They could already look forward to league fixtures against Sheffield United and Chesterfield.

They will also play a first-team friendly at Worksop, just after they come back from a week s training in Austria.

A match will be played in Austria, against opposition yet to be announced, but that will be a fitness exercise, with all the squad involved.

The players report back for training on June 29. The league fixtures will be published on June 17, and the League One campaign kicks off on August 6.

Owls pre-season dates: July 6-13 training in Austria, and a June 12 game, July 16 Worksop A (3pm), July 19 Rotherham A (7.30), July 20 Stocksbridge A (7.45), July 23 Leeds H (1), July 24 Sheffield FC A (3), July 26 Barnsley A (7.30), July 27 Hallam A (7.45), July 30 Stoke H (1), July 31 Alfreton A (2).

According to Cypriot newspaper 24Sports.com.cy, Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson has arrived in Cyprus to watch tomorrow's game between Ermis and Ethnikos Achnas at the Ammochostos Stadium in the city of Larnaca. Megson has reportedly watched numerous DVD's of Sikov but he wants to watch him in person before making a decision whether to sign Sikov.

Sikov is a free agent in the summer and is regarded as one of the top defenders in a Cypriot League that continues to get better every year. Sikov has made 11 appearances for the Macedonian national team and has scored two goals. Sikov has played as a RB for the national team although his best position is at CB. He has good size and is dominant in the air but like many big defenders, he does struggle with speedy and quick attackers.

(could be interesting! )

Wednesday will pick up a few highly rated and very promising young League Two players. Rotherham's Adam Le Fondre and Nicky Law, Chesterfield's Craig Davies and Accrington's Jimmy Ryan. Who will be more than capable of making the step up and will be excellent signings if pulled off as expected.
The other five players Wednesday will sign in the summer will be more experienced players to blend in with the youngsters. The three loan players from last season Neil Mellor, Danny Batth and Rob Jones will unsurprisingly be signed permanent.
With the other two signings being Richard Hughes and Richard Naylor to add experience to a squad that should have the right blend of youth and experience to maintain a serious challenge for promotion.
