I work as a telephone engineer and got chatting to one customer today who works for a small football agency. They didn't work with players at our level of the game and he hadn't heard any specific rumours involving us but he did say to watch out for a lot of surprise signings in the lower championship and league 1. He said that players and agents have softened there demands in light of the new financial fair play rules that have put the power back with the clubs a little bit. The players know that the clubs have less money and if their demands are too high the club will just walk away leaving the player with no club. He said they are already seeing a change, they have ten players out of contract this season and only one has been offered a better deal than they are on at the moment, a couple more have got similar deals but the rest are being offered less and this isn't because they aren't worth the money but just because of the lack of cash around because of the new rules.
Actually sounds plausible. There are quite a few players like Johnson and Fryatt out there who managed to get good contracts at there previous clubs but may now find that not many clubs will match these wages now. Obviously there are some clubs who will still pay over the odds for a player but I can see that some players will have to get reduced contracts if they still want to play football.
