Ok people I know the team is not completed yet, but what is your prediction for the up and coming season? Every start of the season I get very optimistic and feel that we will kick arse, to my dissapointment. This season I would be very happy with progression like top half half of the league. Do you think that's a alright presumption or am I being under ambitious?

Top half/top twelve would be decent progression. We still don't know if owner will be approved and if the cheque book will open if he is?

The way in which we do it is important too. I want to see a bit more consistency, and not huge spells of season without any points at all.

I'll take safety at Easter!

Des waddle there ever the contraversionalist. not wanting huge spells of the season without points, can't see many people agreeing with that

Bardao, Andrews, Johnson, Best and Tardieu.
what have we got?

Bardao
Over the hill with no English experience, coming for the cash. OR experienced goal scorer who plays well with his back to goal and good in the air.

Andrews.
Another past his best journeyman looking for one last pay day OR Experienced midfielder, eye for a goal, good at keeping the ball, strong and a leader.

Johnson
See above.

Best
a nearly man, a quite never was, potential unfulfilled, lazy and arrogant OR Somebody that the penny has dropped, now knows where the net is, still has pace and strength, could do us a job.

Tardieu
Another youngster who had potential, playing for a crap team in a crap league, another to stick in the stiffs with McCabe and Cory so why why why OR A diamond in the ruff, best player at his club, needs the best bringing out of him SG is the man.

I really don't know the answers, I have MY opinions but what do others see?

Leave it to sg decision he knows what team he wants so probably has scouts who know a lot more than any of us . Otherwise we would be a scout/manager. But only start moaning (if) we have a rubbish start after 5 games into season. From the look of fixtures and used to supporting the owls i'd be happy with 8pts by then!

Agree0 Disagree0

SG will stand or fall by these decisions so he must know what he wants and what he can afford.

I'm happy to leave it to him and support him and the boys as always.

I suppose that's the great thing about football - peoples opinions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Of all the 5 mentioned has anyone heard this from S. G or is it just paper talk again. hopefully the latter

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the beauty of football is everybody has a different opinion. The key is to have a team which functions. Gray got the best out of team last year but high tempo pressing game requires ultra fit hardy players. Injury prone players will soon be found out. In last few games of last season it was clear tank was empty on few players, not surprising as we were using them over and over again. I look at players mentioned and see if they fit this mould if not assume its not true or we are being offered them by agent. Age doesn't matter as long as legs are still functioning.
I know Andrews was a good player and was part of play off team last year but could not comment on capability.
Understand all of players above except two frenchmen have worked with Gray before and a manager always gets linked with that type of player, so may be no truth in any of those links.

I think you have to give SG his due he brought back Maguire and he seems to be a manager that players will play for.
This could be a season when a few of the youngsters could break through.

Re Teat Owl (thought provoking handle that) posers above.

Brandao - avoid, over the hill.
Andrews - on balance avoid.
Johnson - short term contract.
Best - not the man we want/need - avoid.
Tardieu - worth giving a chance to the guy.

Any other views.

Great post, provides balance.

Take over is adding so much to the unknown. Are these players ones we are looking at now, or after takeover confirmed?

Lens have promotion rejected becomes hm still hasn't paid the 10 million into there account. iam sorry but know for the first time I think this takeover isn't going to happen please let me be wrong.

Or he is turning his attention to us. As let's be honest with ourselves. We are a damn site bigger with a lot more potential if money spent wisely. Arguably the english premier is the best most televised league in the world. So has a lot more appeal than the french league. see it as a good omen.

Know how you feel, Real Owl. It isn't the news coming out of France that particularly worries me. After all, there have been inconsistent and wrong statements from that source for some time. For me the problem is that MM has been so quiet. Hitherto at times of anxiety he has made confident predictions that the deal is going through, a mere formality, Lens does not affect us - just be patient and so on. Recently silence. It would be reassuring if MM were able to express his confidence again.

I don't understand how people can say Andy Johnson would not do a job at Wednesday yet Brandao would. Johnson is a striker who has been prolific throughout his entire career which the same can't be said for Brandao. So you can only assume that fans would be happy for the club to take a punt on Brandao based on the fact that he is Brazilian, which is ridiculous! and shows the mentality of some of our supporters.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a supporter who would SUPPORT any player that pulls the blue and white shirt on including brandeo and Andy Johnson but just to pick you up on your comment about Johnson been prolific throughout his career is wide of the mark. Just check his record since 2006 since he left palace where he had his best time. Far from prolific mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy johnson would spend most of the season on the treatment table

Trying to ignore developments at FC Lens, but still have a very uncomfortable feeling.
We're so used to disappointment at S6 that we are never surprised when something bites you up the bum!
Still, could be worse! And we have a few useful additions on board already. Add these to those who started to blossom last year, such as Lee, Maguire and Palmer ( plus Nuihi towards the end ) and we have a much better base from which to kick off the new season. Still woefully thin squad though.
Here's hoping all comes good!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we are all secretly apprehensive about the situation at Lens and, like you, trying to remain optimistic. I know that MM says the situation in France does not affect Sheffield Wednesday. However, it is difficult to imagine that alleged non-payment of funds will not affect the Football League's thinking in at least some small way, especially when we consider their obligations under the terms of the Fit and Proper Persons regulations. There is reason to believe that it is all a genuine mix-up. After all, not long ago the chairman of Lens announced that the money had arrived, only later to find that it was not in the club's account. I am reasonably optimistic that the problem is with Lens and not with Mammadov.

so for me we need 5 more players. 2 x CB (if Oneyewu doesn't sign if so just 1), a creative CM, Winger in as cover and a ST someone who can do a job on his own. UTO!!

Oh here it is!!! Same old same old. I would of thought some of you guys would of learned by now. It is like you go into self destruct mode before knowing the facts!! Calm yourselves and be patient!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fully agree with you on this.
I actually think problems with Lens are good news for us. We will have more money to spend.
Also the journalist Mollina has been stirring things up, clearly upset Mammadov has bought a British club and been putting negative spin on things for weeks, he was one who broke story saying Mammadov in jail when clearly related to someone else.
Ignores fact that Lens do not have their own ground and major issue is they have no plans to acquire one.
