The start of last season, good manager, good signings. Outcome was automatic promotion. The start of this season, bad manager, bad signings. Outcome will be relegation. Makes Gary Megsons good work a complete waste of time. Sorry Gary.

Brilliant loving the optimism and support for the team here. If all supporters were doom and gloom mongers like you why would the players bother to put good performances in. I'm glad the majority of fans still get behind the team no matter what and try to spur them on to better performances. Yes some of the transfers have been a bit rubbish, thats football you take a gamble and occasionally it fails. I hate to say it as he was a good manager but Megson had to go as he had taken us as far as he could, we were starting to slide down league one when he was released. We just need that bit of confidence to spark up again hopefully with a good performance at the weekend and we will be back on track

In support of original poster all hes doing is stating the obvious, saying what he sees.
DJ won promotion with Megsons team, and its because he is intent on picking his signings that results have suffered.
The best players this season have been Bywater, Buxton, Reda, Lierra, JJ, COG, etc and Lines looked superb in pre-season before he got injured.
All these players have been dropped at the first opportunity, whilst the new players have been picked over again - because they haven't gelled yet??
Like the first poster, I judge on what I see and I wont close my eyes to the managers failings because of his reputation. All the great managers would tell you - your'e only as good as your last game, or in our case - your last eight !

In reply to the second post how do you know megson had took us as far as he could he won the sheffield derby then got sacked thats what put confidence in the team winning the derby and dj has got a good reputation but hes always had good players to carry him aswell like bothroyd when he was in prime bellamy whittingham etc nobody can say megson took us as far as he could becouse no ones knows that for a fact, dave jones has had his chance to put his own stamp on the team and so far it hasnt worked, but theres still time for it to work how much time im not sure sooner rather than later i hope UTO WTID

We'll never know whether Gary Megson would have got us promoted?
What we do know though is that when Chris Evans was intrvwd on TV straight after we won the derby, he said that he felt the players had turned a corner, and he had just said to Gary Megson that he could see the same signs as he saw when they took West Brom unbeaten to end of season.
They never got chance to find out because DJ took them unbeaten to end of season, but it could have happened anyway with Megson.
In any case , if GM deserved the sack for what he achieved with nothing, DJ should be very worried .

I personally think that it is only a matter of time until we turn it around and everybody will be saying how great DJ is AGAIN.

Agree1 Disagree2

I don't think it will happen unless he gets a new coach in, because its obvious that DJ and his current team have no idea how to turn this around consistently.

Dave Jones is only still the manager of Sheffield Wednesday because if Milan was to relieve him of his duties it would show that he got it wrong in sacking Gary Megson and appointing Dave Jones. He knows that Gary Megson would be doing a Lot better than Dave Jones is right now and no doubt would love to have him back in charge but would never admit he got it wrong so will have to stick with Dave Jones to try to justify his appointment. In the meantime we will just get worse and worse and worse until the inevitable happens and the fans turn on Milan. Milan needs to swallow his pride, move Dave Jones out along with his terrible signings and bring in a winner. He also needs to find long term investment for the club so that we really can kick on from last seasons success.

Long term investment is definitely needed. MM simply because of his age if nothing else, is not here for the long haul and will only put in as little as he can get away with. Last years promotion cost him less than £500k, thanks to Gary Megsons dealings !
As for DJ , MM has had full confidence in all his managers right up to the point when he sacks them .

Agree1 Disagree0

Do you remember Dave Richards stubbornly "backing his judgment" in his appointments and the inevitable consequences that came from that ? Looks like MM may be in a similar position with DJ. Let's hope that MM is governed less by his pride and is more willing to acknowledge the realities.
