Don't think Stuart grays getting the job, hope I'm wrong but it make's you ask the question why not?& What is Milan upto? No logical reason not to give gray the job, the players obviously want him to get it with the performances since Dj got sacked is Milan just penny pinching! Keep him as caretaker and save a few bob! Just give the man the job and we can move on up the league! UTO
Think the above post is inaccurate.
Gray is already being paid to do managers job will have agreed uplift in pay when taking caretaker role. MM whatever you think is a businessman and unlike him not to have clear picture of what he wants. The decision looks straight forward and current position hard to fathom as MM clearly rates Gray. Looking at comments of both SG and MM I feel another factor is involved.
Think the reason Gray has not got the job have to be one of the following:
1. Length of contract offered by MM is not what Gray wants. MM probably offered end of season.
2. A deal is already in place with another candidate and MM is waiting for him to be released or end of season, socan take upappointment.
3. A possible takeover is in wind and new owners have own idea of they want as manager.
I personally think MM has agreed manager role with a person and is waiting for person to become available. This ties in with his earlier comment he was just looking for someone to hold reins until end of season. Do nt think it is any of the heavily linked names as he has been quite dismissive in response to suggestions such as Ince.
Possible it could be linked to investment.
I've said on here several times that I wonder if there's something about our club that just puts interested buyers off but no-one has ever offered a serious reply. I know MM bought the club but if you look back over say five years how many supposed serious buyers have there been and yet they've all walked away. And it doesn't feel to me as though there's one in the wings now somehow. It just puzzles me, big club name, long tradition, huge potential, huge fan base and yet no takers: what's the reason?
To previous "think the above" poster-
I agree with pretty much all your post but I suspect you came to same conclusions as me because of your very last statement "Possible linked to investment"?
It really is the only one that makes any logical sense.
Coming on the back of two recent £1.5m "loans" to MM (like he needs it?), that would suggest that there are other voices in the background regarding selection of the manager?
I think the lack of investment/ new owner, could be down to us not being able to get planning permission for any changes to the ground, can't even get permission for a new scoreboard. Might be down to some locals objecting (probably blunts) to everything.
Why we could not get investment was of the split shareholding. No person or company will put in millions when others have a say. Soon as this was removed all be it by threat of liquidation MM came in. I know others were waiting in wings if had gne into liquidation. Since MM has taken over the recession has really bitten and few are speculating. Wats more MM is being choosy he wants them to have finance to take club forward not just take over.
He is being true to his word when he took over also last 2 years of struggle will not have helped.
Planning permission is red herring, although substantial funds required to update stadium and my guess is if we do find new owner a move to a new stadium will be on cards. Because of size of fan base and potential it would need to be 45,000 to 50,000 stadium and that's not cheap. Hillsbrough in current guise is costly to maintain and is a drain on resources. I have no idea what proportion of cost of new stadium could be offset by selling Hillsbrough.
Knocking down and rebuilding on same site I understand not an option as would require finding temp stadium or playing on abuilding site for 3/4seasons both big drain on revenue. The above is accurate.
Can't imagine a new stadium would be high on the agenda for a new owner unless they were mega rich. Would have thought they would concentrate on investing in the team. Think a 50,000 stadium is a bit ambitious, don't think we would have filled that too often back in the 1990s.
The stadium is more than adequate for a few more years yet.
When you consider the state of Bramall Lane and they managed to find a buyer.
Although, that does now look a little bit dubious.
