Gray was offered choice of going or being Carvalhal assistant. He chose to go.
Other issues
Roeder has indicated funds required to get promoted and this is way short of what any sensible coach would think is necessary. He indicated would be easy to get quality coach through door, this is proving difficult as those approached do not want to work for as assistant to chap who has not worked for 3 years.
Roeder not been actively involved in football for 7 years his links to game had gone cold except for little bit of voluntary work with Leyton Orient. Somehow got connected to Thai advisors first Vincent Tan now Chansiri.
His lack of real contacts in game have led to us speaking/being at mercy to agents hence shafted with second rate Portugal coach.
Only Cooper has shown any slight interest of working with this guy and that is because he has fell out with assistant boss Williams at Swindon who is apparently the one responsible for getting Swindon to play football. Cooper record prior to Swindon was poor/ordinary. This is well known in football circles but Roeder out of loop.
Having difficulty closing deals because Roeder indication of funds required to build team was wildly optimistic.
Feel sorry for Chansiri who has been given false idea of what can be achieved on relatively low budget, unfortunately will end up costing him a lot more unless he changes tack quickly.
Roeder and ridiculous coach who have been signed have to go. Nothing wrong with having a DoF but you need right man for job not one from football graveyard who has failed in every position in management he has attempted and is not well respected in football community. He will end up appointing others like himself who have not worked for years in task they are being asked to do.
Came from coaching source inside club.
Very worried.

Thanks for sharing the insight Frankel, it endorses what bits I have been told.
You will see from my many posts I share your concerns about Roeder and the "advice" he is giving to Mr Chansiri.
Regardless of DC's lack of football knowledge , he can't be stupid, and I don't believe that he won't be seeing red flashing lights already where Roeder is concerned?
Surely Paul Aldridge will be looking out for DC and giving him warnings, I thought that was why he was staying on for a while?
We can only hope things change quickly (Roeder goes!) before DC and the name of the club becomes a laughing stock.

The events unfolding at Hillsborough over the last few weeks have been nothing short of disastrous. First we're told that we're going to be in the premier league within 2 years and the chairman/owner is prepared to pay whatever it takes. We all know this isn't going to happen by his so far running of the club and his appointments but I do understand he obviously had to say only positive stuff during his first press conference. He then sacks Stuart Gray which is his choice but for what? To supposedly replace him with some bloke that's Simply a journey man manager that's hardly got a record worthy of being the man to take us forward. Even this saga is dragging on and on. Maybe it's now obvious why Adam Pearson jumped ship so soon after his appointment? Now it's the Mark Cooper saga that's making all the negative headlines. Yet another very average lower league manager linked with us. We all expected good and positive things from this takeover but I've now got my doubts and really can't see us improving as a team or club. I also find it very odd that the chairmans first structural change was to put his name on the front of our shirt. Yet again I fear for our once great club.

The only loop Roeder knows about is the one that should be tightening around his neck he is a total waste of space. Mr Chansiri you need to ditch him and quickly before he does too much damage. Makes you wonder if Pearson left because of Roeder.

We obviously haven't got the player budget to attract a proven coach, he wouldn't be my choice but I would sooner we turned to John Sheridan than Cooper, at least the faithful would give him a chance. If Cooper comes in and it starts badly its going to turn nasty.

It makes you wonder what Roeder has told Chansiri about the cost of getting into the premiership, you would assume conservative estimates would be 15 to 20 million, Roeder has probably told him about 2 to 5 million if that. I think we have got to buy or loan in 10 players and that depends on whether Loovens, Semedo and co re sign. It will be a good pre season in Portugal although the costs will come down with every one on a mini bus

I'm praying we don't get either Carvalhal or Cooper there's plenty of good managers we could be going for Big Sam, Gus Poyet or Zola they're the type of Manager that can attract big name players not an unknown foreigner and a league 1 manager that's done nothing.

Big Sam would cost about 5 million a year, so I can't see that happening. Did Sunderland really improve over the season Poyet was in charge? I think not

It seems we've already got Carvalhal so its a case of who's going to work with him. John Sheridan is out of work, and would be £150,000 cheaper than Cooper. A pity Paul Cook went to Portsmouth as I was always impressed when listening to him, but then again hardly a name to attract top players.

Been picking up some very bad vibes since the sacking of Gray. Players haven't signed new contracts and apparently are wanting to jump ship i.e. McGuire and Loovens (can't really blame them from the so-called new management names being mentioned! How can Cooper possibly be better than a guy who brought about that long lost feelgood factor to S6 and steadied the ship in turbulent waters on a shoe-string budget, obtaining championship mid-table comfort? Who the hell is that unknown portugese bloke who hasn't done anything in his years of flitting from club to club with nothing worthwhile in terms of silverwear to show for it. Has a nice c.v. in terms of sackings and resignations. not!! Was really looking forward to next season. not any more! Nice spanking new screen in place to watch defeat after defeat! Really unhappy!!

Sheridan would at least get the fans behind him but is he still a big enough name to attract players. Why pay money for Cooper I would rather take my chances with the Portuguese guy.

Poyet took Brighton up and then got them into the Championship Play Offs first season you can't judge him by what happened at Sunderland they've struggled for the past 5 years Jose Mourinho would have his work cut out at Sunderland.
