"Jonesy" used to have a decent youth setup! Wednesdays would struggle in the sunday league {Ed001's Note - he had a decent youth setup because he created it, that is usually why he is employed, because he will set one up that works and give the players from it a chance.}
Lets not forget tho will he get the funds to do so? Also he had pretty much the whole of wales to get players from! Here he's competing with United who have a far far better set up than us and a reputation of progressing young players. {Ed001's Note - that is down to Mandaric to back him, but he did ok with Stockport and they were competing with both sides of Manchester and Crewe, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton etc were all in the same catchment area.}
Fair point ed i suppose only time will tell {Ed001's Note - it takes ten years or so before the full effects of a youth policy bear fruit, that is why so few managers are willing to bother with it. They look at examples like Man Utd, Ron Atkinson sets up a fantastic youth system, but it was years later, under Alex Ferguson, that the benefits were seen and none of them were enjoyed by Atkinson.}
