I will never watch wednesday again if we sign howard!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeh yeh heard this sort of statement before, many times, mainly from me!

Agree0 Disagree0

I woud'nt go to that extreme of never watching them again, know what you mean tho, maybe him and davies where good when they was younger but I hope davies doesn't come here, get some young un's ffs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know I am 76 but I still have my boots in the loft.

Agree0 Disagree0

My boots went in bin could never play that's why I started watching the Wednesday, best move I ever made.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yrehhh ok maybe I was a bit exstreme but,, come on wednesday,, howard,, there must 10's of 1000"s of other strikers out there,, even pool in div 2 don't want him lol,, it just baffles me why would even consider him! Actually wines me up!

Agree0 Disagree0

True but we support players we don't sign em, we, ll be ok top 10 this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously did not watch us last year. He played well for us. With all the rain about pitches every wear cut up badly and you could not play passing game. DJ relaised this and we used big man to hold up ball and used long ball more. The number of fans who critiscised this change were not smart enough to realise a passing game was not correct with pitches which are rutted and like a quagmire. Hillsbrough was not good and some away surfaces were diabolical. Madine could not do this job, so brought in Howard who did it well. Anyone who can not see the need for the option of having player who can do this role is daft or you are hoping for a really mild dry winter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Howard is rubbish end of story, if u like him so much go watch pool, am sure they will love to have you cheering him on! Lol

Why are a lot of fans getting worried. Not many championship clubs if any will be spending big due to the fair play rules so why would Wednesday be any different. Anybody hoping to bring in big names are way off the mark. This season more than any other managers will have to spend wisely in order to get the best players they can as cheaply as they can. Have a little faith in DJ and MM.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

New FFP rules mean we have more money to spend than most of our rivals because of the revenue coming in from the huge fan base we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

But we must also deal with the residual debt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its fine talking about residual debt and saying other clubs won't spend money - for goodness sake just look at the transfer market so far - Leeds - Ipswich Middlesborough - Charlton - to name just a few who have already been busy in the transfer market blimey even the dingles have spent money one bought from us. Its bad when the dingles can afford to buy players but all I see on here is we can't afford to buy we have 3 times their income but all we are talking about is freebies. What the hell we had the 2nd biggest attendance in the championship so people who are saying its MMs money think again a lot of it is our money that we pay week in and week out, and I for one would like to see at least a little of that money going on decent players not just freebies UTO eric the owl

Agree0 Disagree0

When MM did the deal to buy Wednesday I understood all the debt was sorted
Coop Bank was the main debt and that was sorted
How come we are losing £5 million a year with the attendances we get?
Somebody can't add up at Hillsborough

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok, if its your money when will you start paying the £5 million per year off? So we can buy more players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Debt does not stand still. It carries interest with it. MM took the bulk of our huge debt away but not all of it. Piling significant expenditure on top of debt is not wise. That's how the country got in a mess. MM's careful management will ensure our long term survival.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think the attandances we get cover all running cost of club you are way off mark. Look at balnce sheet and see wages and other bills which have to be paid. Very liitle money is used to service debt at moment. Most championship clubs which have ordinary season lose £5 million a year it is common place. If we have cup run or are challenging near the top the debt will reduce significantly. Mandaric is prepared to service the debt because he knows if we get into Premiership the cub will get a boost of at least £120 million per in income. This obviously makes club more attractive to sell and he gets his money back with interest. He is keen to get club promoted as quickly as possible to maimise his return. For those who do not realise club was not just in debt but was very badly run down. he is starting to put these correct and in my opinion has got them in the correct order. He has spent money on academy which is essential to produce future lifeblood of the club, this is in preference to things like scoreboard (which some fans clamoured for) which is purely cosmetic. So instead of just finding something to gripe about look at the positives and realise Rome was not built in a day.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said

Agree0 Disagree0

I would sooner wednesday bring in free transfer men than get in a mess like before milan took over
look at our united friends do we want to finish up like them they spent a load of money and look where its got them 37million in debt and playing in div 1

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for explaining the financials

If we need to build slowly to get back to the top flight then let's do it

We don't want the dark days back and huge debts round our necks

Lets hope we have a great season

wednesday showed intrest in kenywne jones but usual wages too high. even though we've free dover 18k with 4 players goin,

milan needs to spend on wages if he wants us out of this division {Ed001's Note - FFP rules?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Who is this Free Dover? Is he Bens brother?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fully agree, MM needs to spend to at least compete well this season or get out of it, that is the nature of the beast unfortunately. In my honest opinion DJ should only need four high quality players to spend on: right footed CB, left full back, two strikers. Unlike last season please 12 players most did not figure in the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh come on who's told you we were talkin bout jones. don't tell me, your " in the know ". NEXT

Not a rumour but would like to see some younger players involved next season. Views?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We did not have a proper Academy set up, now one s in place think it will happen but may take two or three years.
Interesting how they used to crow about academy and how it helped players get jobs in US football. It produced virtually nothing and this always puzzled me. Now we find out it was on barely a level 2 basis and has now moved to level 4. {Ed001's Note - it takes about ten years to get the full effect of academy changes. The group that came through at Man United in the early 90s were actually the result of the changes that Ron Atkinson had made to the Man United academy during his reign there. So don't be getting too hopeful just yet! This is why most managers won't even bother to work on an academy, they don't want to see someone else get the benefits after they have gone.}

Agree0 Disagree0

That maybe, but the chairman does have a say on the matter and if he does want to eventually sell the club on at a profit, the academy team is a shrewd business measure.
So the manager would have to fulfill his role to the chairman in that capacity.
I think our fans do have a cause for optimism when we see what the club is doing with regards to a previously lacking development policy.
MM, in my opinion, really does know what he is doing with our club and even if it does take ten years, so be it. {Ed001's Note - I think an academy is essential, I was just saying that the fans can't be expecting it to suddenly turn out top class players in the next season. They will need to have patience with it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't disagreeing with you ed, just stating that we are moving in the right direction and that it will take time. Just as you said yourself.
:) {Ed001's Note - no worries.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I fuly accept an academy will take time to reap rewards. I do think we will seeimprovements before 10 years. I know we have been trying to recruit 16 yros who have been released from large programs of Premier clubs. Apparently some of them have 60 or more youngsters on books and have to release numerous at 16. Inevitably some good players are released, I was hopng new impoved academy would attract some of these. We got Hayden White and Ayo Obilye through this route. Hence why I said may see some improvements in 2 or 3 years. Although I do accept your point it could be 10 years before full benefits materialise.
