29 Dec 2012 21:41:52
The last 4 results have been good and 4 clean sheets too. However, I still think it will be 3 from 4
to go down. There is the likes of Birmingham, Charlton, Bolton, Ipswich and blackburn all on late twenties or early thirties. Today Bolton, ipswich
and Blackburn win. Expect Birmingham and charlton to win next time. I cant see Wednesday catching any of these though!!Now Wolves are
a team to chase but expect them to win a few soon.
Of course if it is three from four Wednesday could win the mini league. But Peterborough are quite capable on their day of getting goals and beating anyone. Bristol too can score goals. If Barnsley
get a good manager like Adkins or Billy Davies
and a takeover they could still be a threat.
No margin for error then! And of course
MM dignified and polite and well dressed up prudence statement. In other words no team strengthening in Jan. Just maybe pruning! The other three strugglers will strengthen believe me!#
I thank Mandaric for saving us but prudence as gone for 12 years! With culley, Allen , Hulley and
Strafford! Of course we dont want to throw silly money at things and I agree too! But we hevnt spent silly money for 15 or 16 years!!

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Becouse we havnt hsd it to spend dddddeeeeerrrrr

Agree3 Disagree2

OP - a good post , says it all I think , although I think your point has been missed by some ??
MM is determined to try and hold our ship steady against the tide with minimal investment , and we can all understand why I'm sure .
But I think it was Howard Wilkinson, one of our own in the 80s-90s who said -- the one sure thing in football is that if you try to stand still you go backwards ! Food for thought I hope?

Agree7 Disagree3

Correct this squads no where near as good as it should be but any deal in jan will be done on the cheap mm will take us down without even trying to buy quality because hes just wailting a offer with a big enough profit margin then hes out . other teams will strengthen and well get left behind dont let the last four games distract you view were still a poor side but thats down to the tight purse strings

Agree5 Disagree3

Maybe that's it, I have just been distracted by the last four games. Aw, thanks guys. Things are so much clearer now.

Agree3 Disagree0

I agree with some of the above but I'd like to put a different spin on things. I agree MM is just waiting for the right offer, nothing's changed there. As for where we'll finish, I now think we'll finish mid-table largely due to the arrival of SG who seems to have steadied things and got the best out of the squad we have. I haven't seen a four match table but on the last four matches we have to be near the top. And I think that the progress made will continue to get us into mid table safety. As the ones at the bottom improve the table is compressing adding to hope of us moving up it. For me there's no doubt SG's influence has brought about the change. I don't buy the idea that the improvement is down to DJ because if he'd known how to stop the losing run he'd have made the changes and he didn't. I can well see that we won't spend in the window or at least will only do so if there's a good cheap deal on offer which helps short term and I say 'good' in the hope that someone else other than DJ has an influence in assessing whether any one deal really is good for us.

Agree5 Disagree2

Some good posts in this thread, and thankfully no silly name-calling responses.
I think MMs statement on finances the other day has finally made everybody realise that he only bought us to save us and make some money , it was never a long term project for him. He has no intention of using any more of his own money we will have to live of what we earn until he gets an opportunity to sell us on.
Which is what a lot on here have been saying for weeks and getting slated for saying it sadly. At least now we've heard it from MM himself.

Agree4 Disagree2

I was having a right moan about jones but now i'm happy to give him more time.
His attitude at times has annoyed me and i do get a bit miffed that people can't see that he hasn't really been more than just an average manager at his previous clubs but i believe he is a better manager than this season has made him look.
I believe he can take us into the play offs at least.
He's made a few strange signings and that is still worrying. But to be fair he's had to gamble because he's not been given money to get anything but gambles.
I'm starting to think now that there was something in the Bothroyd contract about him starting games. That would put DJ in a bad position because he can't come out and say "i know he's crap but i have to play him".
If he can just get us someone who can score a few goals we'll finish the season around 14th i reckon.

Personally i would have rather kept Megson, even if it meant us coming up this year instead of last.
I think he brought in some good players and he knows what it takes to get into the premier.
We wouldn't have been struggling like this i'm sure.
But anyway we are winning and playing quite well and i don't believe its all just down to gray.

Agree4 Disagree2

So many negative comment`s, DJ said before the first game that this season would be a rollercoaster ! Nobody like`s to see us losing it`s natural but let`s just get behind the lad`s !! Remember where we were two year`s ago, SKINT !! We can all spend money that`s why there`s so much debt. Our club is on the up, but it take`s more than simply throwing money at it. Let MM do what he is very good at and let`s us do what we are very good at WAAWAW And before anyone has a pop, i have been watching WEDNESDAY for 47 year`s not since we were in the Premier ??

Agree2 Disagree2

^ so many ? don't see even one negative comment ?
Everybody just accepting it like it is far as I can see .
Not going to be pulling any trees up in transfer market, but MM won't let us go down again without a fight cos that would hurt his pocket.
So we all got to accept just treading water till somebody else takes over .
That's fact not negative.

Agree4 Disagree1

Lst seasons heroics gave everyone a little more optimism than we should have had. Big problem we have had for last few years is we do not have the production line of talent that some clubs have from youth system. There was much said about MacCauley and youth team but not alot resulted. It does appear we have made attempts to improve youth set up ad invested in younger players in last couple of years. Therefore can understand a lot of above comments but think we have moved quite a long way from MM's starting point.

Agree4 Disagree0

I'm feeling positive considering recent results. Hopefully MM will bring a bit of class and get rid of Hemroyd.

Agree5 Disagree0

Agree, we can strengthen squad 100% by sending Bothcrap home - fans dont want him and rest of players obviously dont want him so save your many for somebody else Milan - please !

Agree5 Disagree1

Squad will not improve unless we add to it.

Agree2 Disagree0

Four games without conceding is commendable. Lets hope we can keep moving forward.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Chis wood signing for leister means Jamie vardy coming to the owls a through and through owl

Agree1 Disagree1

Sign woods and trotter and ask leicester if they fancy getting rid of marshall and next season we're up.
Invest another couple of million next season MM and you will make a mint when we reach the promised land :D

Agree1 Disagree0

I think MM is just looking to stabilise the Club in this league and then sell with little further investment or as little as is necessary to get an offer in. But there has to be an element of worry about where the offer comes from, i.e which part of the world. Some clubs are now controlled by people who seem to have very, shall we say, unusual ideas about how to run a football club in this country. And once they are in control anything can happen.

Agree7 Disagree0

^ Good post , on the nose !

Agree5 Disagree1

I think that MM see's Wednesday as a long term investment and that he also accepts the work in progress.
I predict that he will be here for a while.

Agree3 Disagree4

Not at 75yo he wont ?
He'll be wanting to put his feet up asap. He said when he bought us he thought he had retired from football.

Agree4 Disagree3

If i win euro millions i will sign woods, trotter, zaha and batth.
Just give me the money back interest free when we get up

Agree1 Disagree0

That's why he is building a youth team and buying young players. Cos he wants out ASAP. Lol.

Agree2 Disagree1

Or because its cheaper than buyin proven players, and any buyer would be wanting to see a youth setup n we didnt have one ?

Agree2 Disagree1

74 by the way. Spring chicken.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm only 64yo and I can say for sure at 70odd years old Mr M wont want to be here one week longer than he has to be believe me.

Agree1 Disagree1

Like Alex Ferguson? People in high profile jobs tend find it hard to let go.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nope, cos he and DJ are buying young players to improve the team for now and for the future.
Somebody stated earlier that we have struggled over the recent years because of the poor youth policy we have promoted.
Now we are trying to improve it people are still winging. Brilliant.
UTO FTE

Agree1 Disagree0

Ferguson the exception that proves the rule , like the older chap was trying to say , most people dont want to work beyond 65-70yo unless they have to.
As far as I can see nobody wingeing about setting up a youth system, just opposite.

Agree0 Disagree1

Harry Rednapp is 65. Jeez, another exception. I just can't get my head around it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Rednapp is 65 and doesn't look like giving up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its good that it was the opposite to winging, lol.
Also, very nice that you need to back the other guys comment up, but as far as I can see he wasn't trying to say, he was saying. Which is fine by me.
I still think that the comments about MM that you are trying to constantly brainwash people with are complete tripe.

Agree0 Disagree0

You did also state that MM isn't improving the youth system for the club, but only for his own immediate profit.
Seriously, that is winging. {Ed056's Note -

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Fergie and Harry are just skint.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or maybe you could say something positive instead of trying to score some sort of "points" over other posters.
Mine and the other posts you refer to were perfectly valid and certainly not abusive - like yours.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh that old chestnut, it seems to be your only card to play when i don't agree with you.
It's wasn't intended to be abusive at all.
I am saying positive things about our club. I think MM is improving our youth system and I don't think he will sell us in the near future. I feel positive about our recent progress.
Grow some.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is voicing a opinion scoring points? Oh, that's because you can't handle people disagreeing with you.
I simply think that your slander is trying to brainwash people that don't feel the same.
That's why you have been repeating it for weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems to only be positive to you when people agree with you that our club is going down the drain.
I don't think we are. Boo hoo.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am happy to debate any issue you disagree with, but surely that is done by posting an alternative viewpoint, not abusing me and the other posters on this thread who you seem to think are all ONE person ?
The slander & brainwashing you refer to, I find bewildering ! Whats all the age stuff assault about ? I never posted on that topic and I'm sure the 60odd years old guy is quite shocked at the reaction but I'll let him speak for himself .

Agree0 Disagree0

I am so annoyed by the outburst on here I have copied my post again below. Perhaps you could explain what is so objectionable , slander, or brainwashing. Or perhaps one of our other fans can say what is so wrong with it?
>Or because its cheaper than buyin proven players, and any buyer would be wanting to see a youth setup n we didnt have one ?

Agree0 Disagree0

The age stuff was not abusive, it was commenting on the age of manager with respect to your comment about MM being to old to take us forward.
How did I abuse you, are you that sensitive?
Yes the constant monotonous posts about MM and DJ is trying to brainwash positive fans. Why else would it be so constant.
Would you like a tissue?

Agree0 Disagree0

I have repeated my post and leave others to judge .
Can I respectfully suggest you read through the posts again - because I just have after the previous post.
I certainly didn't, and I dont even see where any of the other posters has even suggested that MM is too old to take us forward ? I think one or more posters are "suggesting" that perhaps at his advanced age, MM will be wanting to retire asap. I didnt see any mention of DJ at all.
So your verbal assault on me and the others was because you have read something that nobody has even said or written? Perhaps you can now see why I/we find the tone of your posts abusive?

Agree0 Disagree0

Because once again, your copied post is brainwashing people about MM setting up a youth policy just to for selling our club.
Why do I have to keep on explaining your comments to you?

Agree0 Disagree0

This will be boring other posters I'm sure and I'm not sure we can have a sensible discussion any more.
Explain my comments to me ? Strange comment ?
I wrote them !! ... trust me you are somehow reading something I am not writing?
I was responding to earlier posts about MM not spending etc , I stated the obvious that any buyer would be expecting to see a youth setup and that MM was supporting that project because younger players are cheaper than proven players. Its only making sense, in effect repeating what MM himself has said.
Have you even bothered to read MMs own statement on spending that he released this week before you unleash a tirade, its all in there from his own lips, along with numbers from the balance sheet.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's you that should read again pal.
"Not at 75yo he won't. He will be wanting to put his feet up ASAP".

Agree0 Disagree0

I still don't see the abuse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Up the owls, and if you don't like anything about em, go to the lane.

Agree0 Disagree0

?? re your latest offering:
It's you that should read again pal.
"Not at 75yo he won't. He will be wanting to put his feet up ASAP".

I didnt write this so not sure how I am responsible for it , but even so I cant see anything wrong with it, most 75yo want to put their feet up ASAP I would have thought ??
Again I think you are somehow reading something that hasnt been written ?
Not been to Lane for about 30 yrs, not even to derbies so I'll carry on getting my season ticket For S6 like I have for last 27yrs , and paid on gate for many years before that, even strange occurances like this wont put me off going, or from posting my thoughts on here either. HNY

Agree0 Disagree0

How many of the 27 years have you spent "booing"?
Never said you wrote it, but you questioned my response.
Why do I have to once again explain your posts to you?

Agree0 Disagree0

Never booed in my life, not my sort of behaviour, but perhaps you know me better than I know myself ?
Its not your response I'm questioning anymore , like I said HNY.

Agree1 Disagree0

Talk about going round in circles man.

Agree0 Disagree0

Now, now girls!

One change - Madine in for Sidibe - looking good so far !

Believable6 Unbelievable0

12 points off the play off`s posotive

Agree3 Disagree0

Seems like our defence is sorted out for the moment.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 points out of 12 not bad the futures bright the futures gray

Agree3 Disagree0

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Reda came back we haven't conceded?

Agree2 Disagree0

A couple of weeks ago I said I'd settle for 8 from 12 points over the four holiday games. Now we might even get 10. At last light at the end of the tunnel.

Chris woods has agreed terms with leicester. Reported fee 1m. Pearson does it again...mik

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Meant to say leicester have agreed with his club wba ...mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Shudnt this be on Leic, WBA, or Millwall page whats it got to do with us?

Agree8 Disagree0

Cos if you read this page the so called experts are always linking him with us , , , muik

Agree3 Disagree8

29 Dec 2012 13:19:49
Well to be fair we should be going for players like him.
If we aren't then we are admitting we want to stay a mid to low table side.
We get good crowds that would increase if we were near the top.We have a good merchandising income.
We should be near the top and competing for players.
Invest a couple of million now and the reward could be enormous.
If we arent ambitious we may as well not bother

Agree7 Disagree1

Agree , but if you read MMs statement yesterday with accounts dont think theres much chance of him spending any money anytime soon !
He seems to be saying we making more money , got things turned round now nicely, but other clubs cant afford to buy players, even tho they are, and we not going to make same mistakes.
Looks like its loan signings and "bargains" on the shopping list for us!

Agree8 Disagree0

I don't want to go back to the days when we chucked money about and got in debt but a few million these days is enough to get you in the top 6.
If MM can't or wont gamble on getting in the playoffs then we really need someone to come in who can afford it.Because getting in the premier now, even for one season makes you millions.
I don't want to belittle what MM has done but we need to push on.
Maybe this season yeah, don't go mad.But next season we will have to spend some money.
As long as the Venkys don't want to buy us i don't care who it is.

Agree8 Disagree0

We can say and think what we like but MM is a businessman and, for him, things are going to plan particularly now results have turned around. Up one league, results improving, mid-table finish likely, little money spent. We can't afford to forget that. We look at things as fans and emotion is involved. He doesn't have an ounce of emotion where business is concerned and that's all SWFC it is for him. If results continue to improve the overall situation just adds to the sparkle on SWFC in the shop window. All he needs to do is just consolidate a little more and then push his sales pitch hard. At the end of next season I wouldn't mind betting the club will be in different ownership. Why would he spend millions he won't get an adequate return on. I share concerns about who the new owner might be.

Agree1 Disagree0

I am sure there are plenty of bookmakers that would give you the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.

Agree3 Disagree0

I didn't go to the Bolton game I had family commitments but the people I usually go with said that Sidibe scored a good goal from a brilliant cross by Buxton but did little else throughout the game and they described him as a donkey. They said that Kirkland and Lleira where outstanding, Antonio scared Bolton's back four to death and Prutton and McCabe bossed central midfield, in fact everyone had a good game. But Jones singles out Sidibe, a player on loan for special mention. Why.

He is now saying that he is glad to have Bothroyd available because we have missed him in the last few games. Am I dreaming or have we really gone three games since Bothroyd has not been available and not conceded a goal and won nine points. If I am not dreaming and we have won three games on the trot, how the heck have we missed Bothroyd.

Please send all answers to the home of the confused and bewildered.

Believable16 Unbelievable1

With you on that one bud, I was there.
I think the chap who keeps branding all these types of comments as - experts - should explain how Mamy was best player and why we should be glad to have Bothcrap back ?

Agree14 Disagree0

I have been consistently critical of DJ and always will be because he is a reputation without foundation, he has done nothing but upset fans at every club he's been at , with statements like these you can see why .
As you rightly say we have just had our most successful and convincing performances of the season whilst JB injured, following our dire period when JB was ever present ?.
So as I see it, the only reason Jones would want JB in the side is because they are mates ! ... And that is not in the best interests of Wednesday ?
Surely we can all agree on this one ?

Agree13 Disagree1

Mystery - I got an horrible feeling he saying this to justify buying him in Janury . Big mistake if he does an I think everybody would turn on him then . I would anyway ,

Agree13 Disagree0

Maybe Sidibe wasn't great at Bolton and Madine is the better bet, but I haven't got a problem with Jones singling him out for praise. I know Jones isn't consistent with this but I'd rather he gave this kind of encouragenment; highlighling the good bits of a player's game and prefeably working on the bad bits on the training field.
Does anyone else think that the Gray appointment has got Jones out of jail? I think there's every chance now that we'll survive and Jones will live to fight another day.
I'm not his biggest fan - I think he lost the plot after the Leeds game but like all of us I want Wednesday to succeed no matter who's in charge.
Happy new year.
JR

Agree12 Disagree0

Good post, spot on with Gray / Jones and effects of Leeds match.
Do think though that praise and criticism should always be consistent for all of the players ? No matter who manager is!
DJs praise of Bothroyd every week he played, when everybody in the world knew the truth, was what upset the dressing room and the fans, and we don't want that to happen again now we turned a corner do we?

Agree11 Disagree0

I don't think Hemroyd or Big Momma should be at our club. So I don't need to explain myself.
I'm not a fan of DJ, but for the moment it is what we have so we may as well make the most of it, especially now that he has a good coach to fill the void in technical skills that was missing.
The previous comments you 2 lads where making about MM, in my eyes, was out of order. I am without a doubt that he will know a whole lot more about running a football club than both of you put together. He is a business man and he made millions, did you?
Finally, to be honest most of the time I just can't myself when it comes to winding you 2 up, it's just sooooo easy. It is supposed to banter after all. So chill out on stop taking everything to heart.
LMN

Agree10 Disagree10

Mr Windup - What are you on?
Just read all posts in thread n nobody has mentioned MM ?
Just guessing you must be the guy who calls people experts if they dont agree with you ? and you think there are only TWO - the stands are full of em mate !
Like DJ said a few weeks ago there are 25000 who think they experts !

And why? why? why? would any true Owls fan get a kick out of "winding up" as you put it another true Owls fan ?
You need help mate ! You really do !

Agree11 Disagree9

Well said bud totally out of order for me

Agree10 Disagree8

Was many previous posts about MM. But hey Iv said my piece. Off out to seek help now.

Agree7 Disagree0

Get well soon mate, no offence meant really.
More than a few thou think DJ got it right and more than a few thou think DJ got it wrong and prob same with MM?
Thats football room for us all ... but setting out to windup yerown is out of order in my book mate.

Agree6 Disagree4

Oh dear, was that a wind up. That's out of order. Not offended at all. ;)
Hasn't been me making the RECENT "expert" comments.

Agree4 Disagree0

Don't know who started using "expert" but what does it mean if everybody calling everybody "expert" ?
I seen posts what I can agree called expert and opposite way round - wt* ?
You say what you think , I say what I think, thats banter int it.
Just get on with it without windups or name calling - we all want same at end of day - Owls winning every week !

Agree4 Disagree3

Yes that is what we all want, a winning team, be it with 'boos' or 'cheers'...

Agree3 Disagree0

Stoke fans seem to speak favourably about sidibe.
We have a history of having big lumps up front who try but don't score very many.
We loved andy booth but his goal record was terrible.
I'd give him a chance because everyone was on gardners back but he's proved people wrong.
Ideally i'd like someone better.I'd have said Tomlin but he got sent off today , so maybe his bad boy image isnt what we need.
I'd say woods but mm wont pay up.We could have had marshall and woods for a couple of million and i reckon we'd be flying.
But if we're doing it on the cheap sidibe might do ok for us.
Regarding bothroyd. He has been a bit crap but in his few good games he's shown a bit of quality. So maybe if he came back into a side with a lot more confidence than it had the last time he played, he might feed off that and get back to being a half decent player.
I'd personally like to see pecnic get a few games but i think he will end up leaving quite soon.

Agree1 Disagree0

If anybody has watched DJ press conference on Wednesday player first he praised was Antonio, followed by Halen and Lee. He only metioned Sidibe when ased by member of press. His comments were he has worked really hard and deserved the goal. Hardly singling out for praise more disinformation from anti Jones lobby. He also praised Reda and Buxton.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm not sure about Bothroyd ever producing the goods but it would certainly help build his confidence if, like yourself, fans encouraged him. Sidibe scored the winner last week and from all accounts nearly made the difference today.
I think Madine has had plenty of opportunities now but doesn't seem to be able to buy a goal and COGBA does pops up with the odd goal, but we need more.
I can't go to any matches anymore, but I am just putting 2+2 together. So if I am wrong, so be it.
I just pray MM gets his wallet out and buys a proven goalscorer.
