If it was possible to sit in a room with carvalahal and pled him not to go I'm sure we would all jump at the chance. Wish he knew just how important he is to our progress hope he knows should I say.

This is a huge jump in opinion in Carvalhal since he joined us. I remember when he was announced that virtually everyone was sceptical and thought a nobody like him would never succeed and we would plummet towards relegation. I'll be honest that while I didn't think we would be near relegation, I didn't think he would do as well as he has with us and would have been replaced by now. Now we are at the point where he has done so well with us Premiership teams are looking at him. I hope that the only Premiership club he looks to be with is us in one to two seasons.

I doubt that Chansiri would let him leave for another club without a serious battle, especially with his 2 year plan for the club going in exactly the right direction.
CC is doing an amazing job, but I don't think he has proven himself enough to take over at a Premiership club with the main objective being to keep them up.
That's just the way I see it, but I really hope that I'm not wrong because we have waited a long, long time to just get back to this level.

Is automatic promotion a realistic aim for the season?

It's a realistic possability definitely but I think one that should wait for next season. I don't think our squad is anywhere near good enough for the premiership just yet and if we did go up this season then the amount of change to the playing personnel that would be required to be competative in the Premiership would ruin team spirit. I wouldn't complain in the slightest if we did go up this year but I think it would be better to wait another season and build on this current squad. A good finish this year will help us to attract the better players we would need to first win this league and then second stay in the premiership.

I tend to agree.
Although it is a slim possibility, I don't think we are quite ready yet.
