Have we been linked with any centre halts as both Gardner and Llera were all over the place tonight hope so

Believable2 Unbelievable1

So they have one bad game and we are panic buying. As long as they got it out of way last night they can only improve DJ will only sign a CB if he is better than what we already have.So come on all you doubters name the ones that are available and would drop into the Championship to join a club that is not one of the favourites for promotion and will not pay over the odds on wages. That is what DJ has to work to and if he can find a better CB that fits the budget he will sign him.

Agree2 Disagree0

I'd say wait a couple of games to let them get used to playing together before panicing. This team has a lot of new players so may just take that first couple of competative games to bed in properly. Having said that the team looked a whole lot better in the second half and seemed to have gelled better.

Agree3 Disagree0

No secret we are looking for right sided centre back. They are boh left sided and think this led to confusion. Improved as game went on.

Agree2 Disagree0

This team as not been playing together long give them a chance happy for ogrady never stops working for the team and it's plane to see dj rated him higher than hardwood and Lowe

Agree3 Disagree0

What game was you guys watching? Our fullbacks cost us both goals, hopefully Lee and Mattock will make them pull their socks up! Beevers left sided too, let it Stew !

Team ratings
Kirkland - Sound performance 2 good saves kept us in game.
Buxton - Lacking match fitness/sharpness (understandable)
R Johnson - was left isolated in first half but kept trying and was good in second half
Llera - Beautiful freekick for assist on 2nd goal all defence looked lost in first half but looked better in 2nd half
Gardner - At sea in first half both centre halves were playing left side, improved second half and showed some assured passing.
Semedo - worked hard but was outnumbered first half, looked mutch better with more conventional partner and controlled midfield 2nd half.
Pcnik - Lookd lost first half and compounded poor performance with worst penalty for Owls since Colin Wests effort. In 2nd half a different player creative intricate passing and created real problems for opposition.
Antonio - Will benefit from game not quite as sharp as last season but got into stride later in game and scored exquisite goal.
Johnson - Typical performance and goal will improve confidence.
Madine - Injured probably should never have started.
Maguire - No service, created opportunity for himself but was taken off injured.
O'Grady - Worked hard and performed really well in 2nd half best he's played for Wednesday and 2 goals.
Coke - Got into game the more it went on and worked hard.
Any comments?

Very reasonable analysis, agree with your comments. Pecnik did have a dodgy half but was always in the game and a real playmaker second half. He'll be a reet signing I'm sure.

Agree5 Disagree0

I agree. I think that everyone wants to play for the shirt and tonight COG will have the M & M looking over their shoulder. Also I thought that bringing coke into the game gave pecknic more freedom. Well done to the lads.

Really pleased that Antonio got a debut goal. After seeing this guy in the flesh last year I knew it was worth signing him, even if we had to pay a bit over the odds. Bags of potential. Well done son! UTO FTB

In Reading Chronicle says Reading received a fee of around £600,000. This rag is usually reliable on transfer fees. Thus fee although high not as bad as some reports.

Agree1 Disagree0

On sky sports it said 1M when they were showing the ins and outs for reading

Agree1 Disagree0

I posted on here just before Antonio signed that the fee would be undisclosed but would not be as much as some of the fees quoted on here 800k - 1.2 mil it was never going to be as much that .I dont claim to be in the know just thought that MM would not pay that much for a player whos price was originally as 200k.If we got him for 600k well done MM.

I tell you what lads, we should all trust in this DJ chap. Best signing we've made in a long time

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Obviously I agree: DJ has done a great job, but he is, after all, human and he made a bad error in team selection.Put it right when Coke came on to give us some midfield cover. To the gentleman who recently posted that players at this level should be able to play either left or right, we saw what happened in defence ( in the second half, too )when there is no balance across the back. That worry persists: we cannot go on without a right-sided centre back.

Agree1 Disagree0

If the cb partnership is not working its nothing to do with what foot they prefer to kick with it means they have work to do as regards working as a unit what I saw last night it was Liera that was the problem causing Gardner to have to try and cover for him,At half time DJ must have pointed out what the problem was and the performance improved but we still need a cb to play at the side of AG

Agree1 Disagree1

Have you ever tried to play on the wrong side of the pitch ? Not just a problem of the preferred foot - there is the issue of angles and balance, especially at pace when attackers recognise your weaker side.

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree. The bloke who thinks it makes no difference has never played at a decent level. {Ed001's Note - or perhaps he has, I know plenty that have and it depends on the player! It is not what foot you use or balance etc, it is about the mental side of the game. Whether a player has the intelligence to adapt, or the intelligence to spot things developing and the positional sense to get in place to ward off attacks. It is also about the partnership between the two centre backs, whether the other centre back knows that his partner will position himself in a particular place so he needs to change his positioning. The full backs also need to learn to play with the centre backs, to know when and where to cover. But there is nothing to stop a left footer playing on the right or right footer playing on the left of the centre back pairing.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Actually I have played at a decent level and got paid for it .I was also CB that was right footed that could actually use my left foot also, so I could play anywhere along the back.As for level of football fans are quick to point out we are above utd and gloat that we are superior lasts nights opponents finished well below us and the blades last season so what excuse are we giving for the 1st half display. It was a poor showing until DJ put it right at half time, and note he altered midfield and the forwards and left the defence alone to sort it out and they got better and will get better with games under there belt.
