So 10 games gone and I am quite happy with what has gone on and our position in the league. Yes we had a wobble after a couple of easy wins at the start but in the last few games we have started to gel well and look a good side.

The strength in depth looks good and tactically we look stronger recently as well. Roll on the next 10 games and let's see where we are coming into the christmas period and the next transfer window.

SWFC13

1.) 04 Oct 2015 03:19:00
I agree let's see what happens and enjoy the wins when they come but I'm happy as well.

2.) 04 Oct 2015 08:36:33
It seems like CC has now decided on his first team squad, cup matches excepting. The downside of this is having to keep those outside the 18 happy, such as Bus, Lavery, Sougou, and Dielna.

Still, it's a nice position to have so many quality players available compared to the financial constraints that we have had over the past few years.

3.) 05 Oct 2015 08:59:43
For strength in depth do we a Nuhiu Two? I like Joao but we need somebody to keep the ball when Big Dave has a rest.

4.) 06 Oct 2015 08:22:47
Joao will come good in that role I think, he is still learning the league but I think like Nuhiu he will improve

01 Sep 2015 09:09:19
Just heard we put in a cheeky enquiry for Charlie Austin from QPR but he only wants a transfer to a premiership club, he doesn't want to move to another championship club. No harm in trying I suppose.

Got a friend in Norwich who says there are a lot more rumours recently about Hooper leaving and the majority of the rumours say it is to us.

SWFC13

1.) 26 Jul 2015 11:49:16
Cats n bags perhaps?

2.) 26 Jul 2015 15:27:40
Need somebody that's for sure!
Hear we drew 0-0 with Firense.
So that's 5 games and still not scored more than one in any of them!
May only be friendlies , but I get an awful feeling we've not progressed in this critical area - we're just holding on to the ball more than before.
Hope I'm wrong!

3.) 27 Jul 2015 11:27:42
Cant afford two proven twenty goals a season front men so far, and now we are reportably spending £750000 on a player more injury prone in the last five years than Evel Kneivel.
So mid table hear we come if that situation stays the same.
Every team and their dog knows our problem, that's why they come at us at Hillsborough, if they get one goal, they are in with a shout

4.) 28 Jul 2015 19:19:05
Mid table? Bottom six more like.

I know in a lot of the media Carvalhal is to be announced as our manager soon but I have heard a rumour today about Michael Laudrup having been persuaded to join us. He has left his club in Qatar so is free but the only fly in the ointment is that he has said he turned down the West Ham job saying they weren't big enough. Like I said just a rumour I heard, thought I would post it even though I think its not likely.

SWFC13

1.) 19 Jun 2015 20:21:08
I don't think Carvalhal is being brought in as manager I think it's as a Football Director role.

2.) 20 Jun 2015 13:06:22
Is it me or is there better options out there for director of football. I mean dc sacked gray because he wasn't a big enough name and them were linked to carvalhal and cooper. it's a joke

3.) 20 Jun 2015 14:08:37
Absolutely right TYM!
The club "allegedly sacked" Stuart Gray giving us the reason that "he was not a big enough name or profile to attract the top players and take the club forward"!
Harsh, a lot of us think, but fair enough its the owners perogative?
Since then we have embarassingly chased two total unknown quantities!
We have allowed a Lge1 manager who has a much inferior experience of top level Prem. & Champs. football than Stuart Gray, to hold the club to ransom! He's even persuaded the club to change the management structure just to get him in!
Why? Why? Why?
What have these two done to justify this intense demand to get them on board?
Who else has been considered , approached, and turned us down?
I personally can't believe that this job is not attractive to a multitude of better qualified and more suitable candidates.
I think we are going to be mystified, disappointed , and frustrated with the direction the club is taking until Mr Chansiri sees the light, and surrounds himself with experienced and above all trustworthy advisers whose only agenda is the success of the club.

4.) 20 Jun 2015 14:38:26
Is it me or has no one ask the question yet about Carvalhal, he is a foreign manager who has coach mainly in Portugal. Can he speak English and how well as he will be coaching in England.

As for the manager situation quite obviously DC does not have a clue what he is doing, first he looks for a number 2 who does not want the job unless he is the number 1 but this guy is a 3rd division manager how is this a forward step.

Coupled with this we have a first team of 10 players, the 5 offered contracts only 1 has resigned, there are massive problems at S6 and if someone does not step up and sort them we are going to be relegation fodder next season.

5.) 20 Jun 2015 21:39:54
I think that DC has said to his advisers it is my club and I want to start afresh, no history just my way, and if any of us had paid £30m plus you would want to do it your way. He will learn from his mistakes as we all do and if the team are not in the top 6 at Christmas then he will start again with new Management

12 May 2015 18:20:55
Heard that we are sending scouts to QPR's last couple of games to check out their squad. If their appeal against their fine is turned down then they will need to sell players. I think there are a couple of players in there squad who would be useful players for us.

SWFC13

1.) 13 May 2015 16:52:50
Jermaine Pennant as been seen at hillsborough this morning. Take what you will from that?

2.) 13 May 2015 20:01:38
No that wasn't jermaine pennant. It was a worker who is working on the new pitch.

3.) 15 May 2015 17:05:18
Also jermaine beckford on his way to the Owls UTO

No wins in 4 now, I think its time for the management to be sacked! Only joking, but 12 months ago this site would have been awash with people saying that. I do hope this is a minor blip and that we can push on again soon and retain our playoff place. I think automatic promotion is now out of our reach, that is between the top 4 now and I can't see three of them losing enough points for us to overtake them, two maybe but not three. Still whereever we finish is a great achievement by a manager who was unknown to this league before last summer and a great springboard to the future.

SWFC13

1.) 10 Mar 2016 16:08:22
Carlos has entertained us now it's time for somebody to get us promoted.

2.) 10 Mar 2016 23:31:55
There you go.
Get a grip man, Carlos has worked miracles.
We are clearly not ready for the Premiership yet, but another season gelling, we could be.
If I was told during pre season that we would be in this position right now, I would have been chuffed to bits.

3.) 11 Mar 2016 12:25:27
I am chuffed to bits.

4.) 11 Mar 2016 23:37:25
Sorry, I was a bit quick off the mark.

5.) 18 Mar 2016 10:17:29
I was playing devils advocate a bit as it's been quiet lately.
But what prompted my thoughts was a discussion I had with some Birmingham fans after our win down there.

In general they were praising us and saying we had more flair and an all round better side than them etc etc.

One older guy though said Carlos would not get us promoted, he'd entertain us but basically because we want to win with flair every game, we'd not grind out the 1 nil wins and hard fought draws like Hull, Burnley and Mboro do, and thinking about it after he may have a point.

What does anyone else think.

This is in no way meant as criticism just prompting some discussion.

03 Feb 2016 16:31:38
Anyone know where we stand with the FFP rules for this year? I have seen a few comments going around that we will struggle if we don't get promoted but I didn't think it was a problem for us.

SWFC13

1.) 04 Feb 2016 19:37:19
Were the comments made by United fans by any chance?

{Ed003's Note - Apparently yourselves,Derby and Boro will struggle being within the parameters.}

2.) 04 Feb 2016 23:49:06
Jeez, that would be just what we all don't need, as promotion is a big ask, despite how much we have undoubtedly improved.
Correct me if I am wrong Ed, or anybody else, but the less threatening solution would be to sell players to balance the books? (If it came to that)
Anyways, it's not worth worrying about too much just yet and to concentrate only on the clubs progression.
UTO.

{Ed003's Note - too late for that from what I gather,If you get promoted you will face fine if you got relegated or you wouldn't be allowed into the FL if not all well,but as in the QPR case mediation would take place same as if you don't go up but an embargo would look likely for a while.}

3.) 04 Feb 2016 23:52:38
Also Ed, I couldn't help but notice the improvement in Blackpools results of late.
👍🏻.

{Ed003's Note - Don't be fooled by a club cash wealthy still in a relegation battle, is league one survival really good after all that's happened ? a fan got sent down for 6 months last week over it all - thanks for your interest as always LMN.}

4.) 05 Feb 2016 00:35:10
TBH it seems that the guy demonstrated much more passion towards the club than Oysten has ever done.
Not saying that bursting into the the directors box wearing a gimp mask was the best move, but I can sypathize with the blokes frustration.

{Ed003's Note - he banged on a window and a couple of other minor offences and has apologised for having a stupid moment - but that is what it is coming to, it is truly sad what is happening to my community because of the Oystons (in my opinion (for legal reasons) )

5.) 05 Feb 2016 08:10:42
Some of the comments came from weeds fans but it is talk I've heard from a few Wednesday fans too. I thought we were fairly safe from it as Chansiri had sponsored the club which meant we had extra income. Also compared to Boro and Derby I didn't think we had spent that big, yes we have had a few 7 figure transfers but nothing too huge like the Rhodes transfer and surely our losses can't be that big. Also there were different interpretations of the rules, some guys saying it is the losses over 3 years and others saying its all down to this one, so confusing and the internet is no help so I couldn't make head nor tail of it. Ah well, we will see what comes in the new season.

6.) 05 Feb 2016 22:32:44
We all have those stupid moments, it's my middle name Ed, but I do truly feel you pain.
Us Owls have been through the mill throughout many years, courtesy of Dave Allan.
Unfortunately for the Pool, Oysten seems to be a complete clunge who does not even slightly care about your club.
Chin up pal.

{Ed003's Note - Cheers L.}

I've been looking at the Premiership table and thinking which clubs will be relegated this year and I think there could be some strong teams coming down. Normally you see 1 or 2 of the recently promoted clubs come straight back down, teams who are mainly championship quality but with a few top level players. This year there is a good chance 3 fairly well established teams could be relegated and with them having decent squads this could cause a problem with our own promotion challenge as they look to get promoted straight away. I know we have other strong teams in this league and any team coming down from the premiership has that bit extra but next season could be a really hard one. Another side problem is that with 3 biggish clubs coming down they may rival us when it comes to signing the bigger players that we need to make that final push on to promotion. What do others think?

SWFC13

1.) 07 Jan 2016 16:58:16
Can see where your coming from but how many teams have got relegated from prem then struggled or relegated again (wolves, Bolton, Wigan even won fa cup then dropped twice) Didn't charlton come down look at them now. Yes I'm contradicting your big name comment but if they can collapse so can big names. Parachute payments should have helped wolves but didn't Bolton are not a patch what they used to be Portsmouth even look at them now. QPR players they've had and still got some they trying but we above them and matched them. Could spell disaster for likes of Aston villa they've been toying relegation so have Sunderland and Newcastle for a few seasons so if they come down I doubt they gunna cause much troubles.

2.) 07 Jan 2016 18:12:13
Also, assuming that we miss out this season we would no doubt be adding to this strong squad, mid season.
Which is a point that you made but certainly needs reiterating, so I guess it's not worth worrying about that far in advance and keeping everything crossed for the present.
I don't think we are ready for the Premiership, but we keep growing stronger and will never win every game, but the lads keep developing and impressing, who knows?

Just been watching a piece on a popular sports news channel about Leicester and was thinking about how Vardy was once linked with us but lots of people said that he wasn't good enough as he was a lower league player at the time. It got me wondering about other players that were linked with us but people said they wouldn't be good enough as they played in the lower leagues and yet they are now doing very well in our league or the premiership. Nahki Wells is another I can think of off the top of my head who has done fairly well for Huddersfield yet again lots of people said he wasn't good enough for us. Also conversely there must be players who people on here were correct about and have failed to shine but I can't think of any examples of them at the moment.

SWFC13

1.) 21 Oct 2015 09:50:35
Vardy has been able to flourish over the last few seasons with good players around him.
Would he have done the same playing along side Bothroyd, Sidibe, JJ or Reda?

2.) 21 Oct 2015 13:40:20
I'm sure he was on Wednesday's books as a youngster and "left" because of some dubious activities. When he was playing for Stocksbridge PS he was never included in night matches. One has to wonder if there was an underlying reason for all those omissions.

01 Sep 2015 08:38:57
Wow this transfer season has been like me playing Football manager when I transfer to a new club with lots of money from a team with no money. I buy a whole new team in and then try to ship out all the players I don't want. So far we have got lots of players in but not much movement out after the initial guys who were released. Yes we needed a bigger squad, our squad has been very thin the last couple of seasons but I think in some areas we have more players than we need and it will be tricky to keep them all happy and the other thing with a smaller squad is you get more of a team spirit. Overall though I am more than happy with what is going on at the club and think we will do well in the league this year.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the papers at the moment. They don't have much to report about signings right now as nothing much is going on as we get to the business end of the season so they have to make do with what little information they get which is usually incorrect.

Never got a run in the team, he was one of those bought in a rush on deadline day last year when we suddenly had money. He was starting to look good but then got injured and fell a long way down the pecking order with our summer recruits overtaking him. Good luck to him at his new club.

Would rather get an unhappy player out and take a hit on his fee than have him sat at the club taking a wage and possibly affecting morale. It's not like we can't afford it anymore. Shame he didn't work out as he seems a good player, he must be if he hasn't played many games and still moves to a premiership club.

Apparently we could have and were willing to match what Boro are paying but we were looking for a summer move rather than in this window. We would need to clear out some of our strikers before signing Rhodes, its one area we have a surplus of players and that will be easier in the summer. Ah well, other targets out there and with Hooper and Forestieri, and Joao and Nuhiu as alternate options we don't have a terrible strike force anyway.

FFP rules are another reason why I think this will be a summer signing rather than in this window, that's a new financial year in football terms.

Southampton got Austin for only 4M as his contract is up this summer and QPR took what they could get rather than loose him for a free. They could ask for more in the summer as there was a chance if they had a good start he would have signed a new contract with them but they have started badly so they took what they could get. As for the Rhodes/ Hooper thing, I think that we may have enquired about Rhodes more as a summer deal rather than now, Hooper is looking odds on to sign for us before the end of this window.

This is a huge jump in opinion in Carvalhal since he joined us. I remember when he was announced that virtually everyone was sceptical and thought a nobody like him would never succeed and we would plummet towards relegation. I'll be honest that while I didn't think we would be near relegation, I didn't think he would do as well as he has with us and would have been replaced by now. Now we are at the point where he has done so well with us Premiership teams are looking at him. I hope that the only Premiership club he looks to be with is us in one to two seasons.

It's a realistic possability definitely but I think one that should wait for next season. I don't think our squad is anywhere near good enough for the premiership just yet and if we did go up this season then the amount of change to the playing personnel that would be required to be competative in the Premiership would ruin team spirit. I wouldn't complain in the slightest if we did go up this year but I think it would be better to wait another season and build on this current squad. A good finish this year will help us to attract the better players we would need to first win this league and then second stay in the premiership.
